When a mid-career copyeditor is asked to help prepare a final paperback edition of a small press novel, she finds that the book’s errors are the least unstable thing about it. As she works through margins, missing pages and a disputed ending, she starts to notice how much of her own life has been organised around other people’s versions of events.
