First draft
In 1798, a Galway coast surveyor finds a coded sea chart that points to a lost French landing site and a buried cache meant for the Irish rebels. As militia, smugglers and informers close in, he has to decide whether the map is a route to freedom or just another way to get people killed. The story moves between harbours, bog roads and storm-battered islands, with the sea doing what it always does, which is make everything harder.
