Behind the stories
Andrew Grant writes across adventure and historical fiction, with a particular interest in character, atmosphere, revision and the details that turn a manuscript into a finished book.
A book is made from hundreds of decisions nobody sees.

First draft
In 1798, a Belfast shipwright’s son is drawn into a smuggling run that turns into something far larger when a coded ledger links him to a failed rebel network and a vanished French landing party. As he moves between harbours, back roads and occupied towns, he has to decide whether he is trying to save his family, his country, or himself. The book leans on atmosphere, pursuit and the small, ugly choices that make history personal.
