The Stolen Candle
In a river city built around old wards and older bargains, a practical candle-maker discovers that one of her ordinary-looking beeswax stocks is carrying a stolen fragment of winter magic. When the man sent to recover it turns out to be tied to the very court that ruined her family, she is forced into an uneasy partnership that keeps becoming less easy than either of them wants. The city’s quiet customs, market routines, and domestic details start to matter a great deal when the wrong kind of magic begins slipping through them.
