When Mara Vale inherits a decaying house on the Northumberland coast, she expects damp walls, bad wiring and a solicitor with poor news. Instead she finds a building that seems to rearrange itself around her, and a set of old recordings made by a previous occupant who vanished twenty years earlier. The house has been waiting for someone to finish what was started there.
