Fantasy
Some spells feel like a craft. You learn them, misuse them, patch the mistakes, get better at the hand of it.
Others feel inherited in a much less glamorous way. Not power, exactly. Habits. Family rules nobody wrote down. Little obligations that sit inside the magic and make it awkward to use. Sometimes the worst part is the surprise attached to it, the bit nobody mentioned because they assumed it was normal.
That difference can do more for a fantasy story than a whole invented system of runes and moons.
