Feedback Wanted
Beta readers are most useful before a draft feels polished, which is mildly annoying for anyone hoping for a tidy verdict.
The helpful notes are rarely “this is brilliant” or “this is dreadful”. More often they’re the less glamorous bits: where the momentum sags, where the logic quietly cheats, where I’ve assumed the reader knows something the page never actually said.
That kind of feedback can sting less than praise, oddly enough. It gives you something to work with.
