Silence in a setting is doing more work than people sometimes give it credit for.
An empty corridor, a room nobody quite enters, a conversation that stops half a beat too soon. Those things can tell you more than another page of wallpaper and weather. Absence is often the sharpest detail in the room.
The trick is knowing when to leave the place unanswered. If the tension is really in what the house refuses to explain, overdescribing it can flatten the whole thing. A good silence should feel specific. Not vague. Not decorative. Just loaded.
