About WONDERFULLY DREADFUL: A Medical Thriller

In this page-turning medical thriller, a biotech startup discovers a nonaddictive opioid pain reliever ... but not everyone is thrilled! When older brother Warren dies of a fentanyl overdose, freshly minted pharmacologist Mia Reinhardt becomes motivated to tackle the opioid crisis by teaming up with her mentor and world-class "opioidologist," Mark Oberon at the Duke Center for Opioid Research. Using a designer-drug approach, they create a new molecule that promises to become the world's first nonaddictive opioid pain reliever. Encouraged by test results in animals and a surprisingly cooperative FDA that grants fast-track status, together with scientific entrepreneur, financier, and golfing buddy Robert Taylor, they form a small company to develop Narcogesic. The drug threatens seismic disruption of the global opioid markets, both legal and illicit, which makes their newly public company Theta Opioid Therapeutics, Inc., the target of an infamous team of short sellers on Wall Street and puts their New Drug Application pending approval at the FDA in the crosshairs of the Sinaloa Mexican drug cartel. As the drug lords and Wall Street join forces, the fate of Narcogesic shifts from the FDA to the FBI.
