His spiritual conversion caused him to reach out by letter to an Austin newspaper to prove his guilt and exonerate two wrongfully convicted men. The letter was ignored but passed along to the Austin Police Department where it ended up on the desk of a new homicide detective. The detective would quickly learn how to become a homicide detective and simultaneously look into a case nobody wanted re-opened.
