Fulfilling careers, a dream home, the freedom to travel—and two fantastic daughters from my first marriage who, for the most part, get along with Ellen. But there’s one thing I can’t give her. A child of her own. After two failed attempts to reverse the reckless decision I made a few years ago, Ellen and I have had to accept that parenthood may not be in our future. At least, not in the conventional way. One stormy night, Anthony appears at our door, stranded and in need of shelter. We let him in, offer him warmth, and a drink.
