A year has passed since the capture and conviction of Richard "The Chameleon" Randall, which had been the longest and most intriguing serial killer trial since Ramirez. Awaiting his death by lethal injection, Lauren Carver, a graduating psych major from USC, is granted permission to interview Randall for her final exam. After the interview, a a murder occurs that in retrospect is similar to Richard's signature. The world watches Richards final day as he is out to death, but Lauren feels there was more to be told. After the second consecutive murder happens, she turns to Charlie Rose, who was once the coroner that examined the victims by "The Chameleon". Now the Chief Medical Examiner, Charlie works beside Lauren, who opens up an investigation of her own as these new occurrences begin to soar out of control that lands them both in hot water, getting the attention of Lead Detective Jason Harper. Juggling a relationship with her boyfriend Levi and his over-protective sister Amelia, Charlie finds herself infatuated with the murderous events as they try to survive the current state as lead law enforcement continue to toe tag Lod Angeles residents. With the consistency of hard-headedness between Lauren and Harper, she tries to render her findings to the homicide department that could help or possibly crack the case. Facing charges of her own, Lauren is forced to immediately acquit her involvement as she faces serious penalties. Charlie tends to her relationship duties with Levi as they head for the Timberline Lodge and Ski Area in Mt. Hood, Oregon, amidst the lock down of Los Angeles. Undermining Harpers orders, Lauren continues to seek out "The Enigma" who haunts Los Angeles until she finds a compelling piece of evidence that leads her down twisted trails and elements that she wasn't prepared for.
