A Ukrainian immigrant Valentina lost both of her parents at an early age and had to earn money from the time she was twelve years old. At twenty-five, she works for a start-up company in San Francisco, dreaming of finally having a place she can call her home. When Valentina meets and falls in love with James, she sees a charming university lecturer with an admirable ambition to help his community. She doesn't know that James has a secret hobby he calls "The Puppet Show," and that she became part of the "show" as soon as she began to date him. Caught in an agonizing emotional conundrum, Valentina must unravel the psychological puzzle of her past if she wants to face who James is in reality and escape.
