How do you catch a killer when the law is on their side? Smith is brought back from a self imposed hiatus from work when a blast from the past comes to his attention. His old law professor has confessed to the murders of two of his students. Smith smells a rat. And when it becomes apparent that the professor has an alibi for both murders, he finds himself in the middle of a deadly game. This isn't about how murders are solved and the people responsible are punished, this is much more disturbing. This is about the law, and if Smith is to beat the most devious killer he's ever encountered, he's going to have to cross a line he never imagined he'd have to cross. The Professor is going to make Smith wish he'd stayed at home.
