Author Ray Hoy comments: "My Jack Frost tales are loosely based on characters I met during my two decades in the Nevada gaming business. Are my stories connected in any way to actual events? Not quite. If they were, I'd probably have to go to jail for not coming forward with pertinent information. Let's just say that the casino business generates more than its fair share of (often nearly unbelievable) stories, and let it go at that. Jack Frost is a composite of three Special Forces men I was lucky enough to have met when I was in the casino business. They're gone now, victims of their chosen profession, but they're not forgotten. They were amazing men doing an amazing job. One of the guys had a huge Doberman named 'Scorpio' and he was impressive, to say the least. Scorpio's gone now, too, but I used him as a model for J.T. Ripper, Jack Frost's belligerent sidekick. The Ripper that I created is a wilder version of Scorpio, and he gets more fan mail than Jack does (sorry, buddy, I have no idea why). Truly a fun dog to write about." - Ray Hoy
