About The First Impulse

The First Impulse It is a tale of a successful female psychologist, Alicia, who completed her studies in England, and moved to South Africa after her marriage permanently. Her husband, Omar Edward, is a South African business tycoon. However, there are rumors that he is a refugee from Pakistan who found his way into wealth and power unethically, and used his connections to erase or alter his past. There is another man in Alicia’s past, Oliver Carton. He is from Scotland, and studied with her in England. He still lives and teaches in Scotland. The main factor that maintains the element of suspense throughout the novel in the minds of the readers is the connection between Alicia and Oliver and the role, if any, that Alicia’s husband played in severing their ties. Whose loyalties lie where? The mystery commences when Alicia’s mental health deteriorates, and her husband decides to send her back to London for treatment. Enter Eda Norrington. She is a psychotherapist and a former classmate of Alicia and Oliver who is aware of their intricate past. The asylum/mental health services center that she works for gets heavy donations from Alicia’s husband, Omar. Between these four characters, there is a story, a happy past, a turbulent present, a sordid crime, and a solution that would require a big sacrifice by one of them. The fact that motivated me to write this book is the lack of ability to think deeply and probe into matters in the modern man. Today, we tend to jump to conclusions straightaway, and usually end up acting impulsively. If somehow, this first impulse can be conquered, then our decision making regarding our relationships can at least be bettered if not perfected.
