About Strip Mine A Jodie Moore Thriller

Jodie Moore is at a crisis point. A British-born and -based Mossad spy, she botches a London surveillance operation due to complications for late-onset diabetes, which she has kept secret from her superiors. Her operational disgrace is curtailed, however, when her Mossad handler and mentor, Max Fry, persuades the agency to keep her on as Israel tries to fend off an emerging threat from a murky Al Qaida offshoot group based in Chechnya. With bloody audacity, the terrorists have struck at Israeli interests in Turkey and Jordan, drawing hurried Israeli counter-actions that harmed the host Muslim countries. With the region seething, the Chechen jihadis want to plant the seeds for all-out war by setting off a humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip that will be blamed on the Jewish state. The trigger will be a lethal infiltrator, Masha Khanov, who makes her way to Gaza via the Egyptian Sinai, giving no quarter to those who cross her. Jodie, the daughter of a Christian mother and Jewish father and graduate of British medical schools, cut her teeth in Mossad by penetrating an international pro-Palestinian activist group at the beginning of the Intifada. Attuned to the nuances of multiple identities, she excelled at playing political agitprop as she collected intelligence on West Bank gunmen wanted by Israel. Now Mossad wants her back in that role, in Gaza, to help foil whatever Al Qaida has in store. Having reached the Palestinian enclave in a boatful of volunteers that defies the Israeli naval blockade, Jodie seeks out an old friend from the Intifada days - Ayman a-Qanun, who back then was a Bethlehem desperado exiled to Gaza by the Israelis and is now an ambitious detective in the Hamas police. Hamas is no less troubled than Mossad by the prospect of Al Qaeda sowing havoc in Gaza, and Ayman finds himself unwittingly helping Jodie with her secret mission to thwart Masha... Will they succeed in time? Will Ayman realise Jodie's true identity? Will she survive the Gaza ordeal, and find her way back into Mossad's good graces and the embrace of her adopted country, Israel?
