About Spirits Awaken Epic Fantasy

A member of the warrior class from an old and dying empire, Dagr marches south on a nearly impossible quest to rescue a pair of girls who were captured and taken into slavery by a growing empire known as the Othangans. Befriended on the trip by a witch, he persuades her to journey south and he learns from her about the world and magic as they walk. They uncover the remnants of a Kjeltic Kingdom and ghosts who hold resentment toward the Othangans.Ingrid and Lorelei, the captured girls taken captive, resist the slavers of the empire as best they can, but also learn about how the empire works and functions. When the Othangans slavers separate them, Ingrid vows not to leave Othanga without freeing her friend, Lorelei-but that may not be so easy for they are two small girls in the heart of an Imperial Capital, an empire built upon conquest and suppression. Ingrid learns that something else is a foul; demons and ghosts lurk in the shadows of the sewers and caves below the capital, some of them seeking to be released. And another dark force of blood drinkers seeks power over the empire.Alone in the Othangan capital, Dagr searches the slave markets and relies on an old network of cultures who wish to remain friendly with his people. Using help from a small band of traders, he frees Ingrid, but in the process angers the imperial city watch. Dagr and the young lady must flee, finding themselves going further into the underworld of the empire, where Dagr is tormented by some spirit that has touched his mind. Relying on one another, Dagr and Ingrid flee the Imperial Capital, vowing to return with greater strength and organization. Ingrid begins on a journey to find what it is that the ghosts see in her, and what power she needs to learn in order to rescue Lorelei, and promote the re-birth of her nation--a nation that does not allow slavery. The ghosts and blood-drinkers rise in the capital as they make their escape. The shadows are rising, bringing dark to the capital. The old sects will have to signal their allegiances. It is an "epic" sword and sorcery novel similar to Conan or Game of Thrones, however there is a darker, spookier supernatural element. In this sense this is an "old school" fantasy novel, but with strong sense of the unknown.
