Tom, a former SAS officer, who had previously worked with MI6, and the CIA has retired and joined the family business. He is drawn back to help with an unusual situation involving a computer programmer whose work has the power to influence how the intelligence agencies operate. A Saudi diplomat who works with various terrorist organisations has ambitions to acquire the programmers work to help the cause of the terrorists and will use any means to do that. Another organisation seeks to expose the advantage that the intelligence industry has now received from the programmer's work. A three-sided struggle develops for control of the situation, a struggle that moves to Afghanistan and develops into a satisfactory but incomplete solution.
