It's been a while since Gideon Trent died in a car crash, only to be reincarnated in a fantasy world by the Egyptian god Sobek. In the time since then, he's adjusted pretty well to life on Crucible. He's got a cool job as an adventurer and has made friends with the beautiful elf Lyra, the foxy thief Kono, and the adorable necromancer Vaingloria. Together with his trusty companion, the crocodile Riverjaw, Gideon and his friends form the adventuring party known as the ScaleGuard!But not everything can last forever, and it looks like the ScaleGuard might be torn apart when a group of elves track them down. And not just any elves either, but Lyra's family!Turns out some complicated things are going down back in Lyra's hometown, and an adventuring party is needed to make it all better. All they need to do is head into a massive steppe, find an ancient ruin, and retrieve a lost artifact. Easy, right?Well, yes and no. Turns out the complicated things going down mostly involve peace talks between the elves and the orcs, and the steppe the ruin is located in is firmly orc territory. Tensions are high, and one wrong move could send these two nations cascading into open warfare.But hey! No pressure, right?
