Phantastes tells the story of Anodos, who has an encounter with a fairy woman. He is told that he has fairy blood and goes off to Fairy Land. Here, he undergoes strange adventures and experiences. He meets, upon his travels, a beautiful woman encased in alabaster, and Sir Percivale, the Arthurian knight. He falls in love with the former and joins the latter in his deeds of chivalry, before eventually returning to the 'real' world.
