After yet another bombing, they stumble upon a militia group in New Mexico, Idaho, and Montana financed by the Reverend Wilder Stear, a charismatic leader of the Religious Right/Christian Identity movement, who are determined to blow up the J. Edgar Hoover building in Washington, DC for less than holy reasons. A clever reworking of Joseph Conrad's "The Secret Agent," "Patriot Ghosts" updates Conrad's turn of the century anarchists and bomb throwers into a conspiracy of contemporary domestic terrorism.
