About Open Window: The Search for Henri Matisse (BUCK MADISON ART MYSTERY THRILLERS)
Buck Madison—early thirties, wisecracker, and former FBI Art Crimes agent, is trying his hand at sculpture at his mountain cabin, when his partner at a private investigation agency tells Buck that a young art conservator has been found dead, and has apparently fallen from a locked fourth floor bedroom through an open window. Buck investigates, searches the victim’s room and finds nothing unusual, except for an original Henri Matisse painting on her easel. The unexpected death of the young woman unravels a web of secrets, involving a dubious art dealer and a killer who will stop at nothing to have their way. Buck calls his friend Lacey Martin – headstrong, intuitive, gorgeous – and a PhD educated curator, to help him with the search. Their mission: to verify the authenticity of the Matisse painting while racing against time to prevent another murder. The suspects are twofold - either a professional assassin targeting the painting, or a member of a circle of young professionals in Washington DC, who are willing to lie as a matter of course. As the investigation deepens, Buck must explore the enigmatic history of the painting and decode the baffling clues in the intertwined lives of the suspects. Buck's client, the young landlord of the apartment where the tragic death occurred, is in a state of panic, fearing for her life. She believes that either a professional assassin or a crazed murderer might target her next. Amidst this chaos, Buck has the critical task of verifying the authenticity of the Matisse painting, while dodging the gunfire coming from more than one killer in this fast-paced art mystery thriller.
