About My Poor Pirate

After sixteen years of marriage, Marat wants to be rid of his wife, Twinka. A divorce, however, doesn't quite feel right. It's one thing to break a woman's heart while she's in her twenties--but ruining her life in her forties is something entirely different. Then there are the inevitable and never-ending custody fights that would ensue, accompanied by the guilt of putting his daughter through them...The most favorable option, as far as Marat can see, is to murder his wife. Indeed, this would be best for everyone involved, including his wife. When Marat shares this conclusion with Dimitri--his friend, and the only person he trusts--the latter attempts to change his mind via comparisons to Dostoyevsky's Raskolnikov. As Marat is driven by ruthless logic that is consistent to him yet abhorrent to society, the three 'heroes' of the piece, Twinka, Dimitri, and Draco--the genius detective hot on Marat's tail--strive desperately to curb his destructiveness. Their attempts, ironically, lay bare their own hypocrisies and indiscretions, allowing their personal demons and darkest desires to surface. The protagonists of this book are philosophers. They ask themselves the right questions but come to the wrong conclusions. My Poor Pirate is a unique, unpredictable, and universally relatable modern novel that takes a look at love, philosophy, crime, and punishment through a magnifying glass.
