About the book
About Mist of Lies, Once Upon a Tilted Rock: a suspense thriller about lies, dirty truth, and the collapse of humanity as powerful forces threaten our way of life. Dire consequences of a secret plan.
The story begins a century ago when an unknown woman sat alone at a small wooden table in the darkness of her flat overlooking a quiet cobblestone alley in Meaux, France. Though she never left her small hometown, you could say she traveled farther than anyone. Her supple mind reached into the depths of the universe seeking to understand its mysteries. Night after night, as a thin trail of smoke rose from the tip of a home rolled cigarette, her mind would enter a trance-like state divining truths about the connection between our spiritual nature and the physical universe. Her name was Augustine Chalamet. You may have never heard of her, but we owe her a lot. A century later, a young woman found the final manuscript written by Augustine. Her name is Saronda Jackson. She was drifting through life, looking for purpose, and wanting to break free of an oppressive mother. Finding the manuscript changed everything. For her and the world. By fate she met Brody Markovich who was fighting a reality he didn’t understand. Together they discovered that Brody’s problem went well beyond him. That’s when the lies started. Orchestrated, pernicious lies that sent the world spiraling into chaos. Mist of Lies is a story of sacrifice, redemption, and the power of love in an allegory for our time. It is as much a journey through the human spirit as it is a discovery of the inner workings of the universe. In the end, we learn a jarring fact about the universe, a fact that may ultimately lead to our demise. This is a page turner that will keep you guessing to the end and thinking about the consequences long after you’ve put it down. EXCERPTS: Slitting the box released the stale air and dusty smell of old books. Saronda pulled out two books of French poetry. A magazine had been stuffed between them. It tumbled to the ground. Reaching down to pick it up she saw that it was a yellowed science journal. It felt electric in her hands. The title caught her eye, Science de la Planète. Octobre 1905. ……… The slow death of his soul was getting harder to ignore. An unpleasant annoyance, not enough to cause pain. [But] 2015 had been a very good year [for Brody Markovich] and he had no intention of slowing down. ……… Rebecca paused to let the gravity of her words sink in. She’d had enough of her spineless boss. She leaned in close, her breath grazing his jugular. “Let’s stay focused on what’s important, newly appointed, not yet approved, Mr. Attorney General. This case was the last little check mark on your dance card. Or should I say scandal-free dance card?”
