About Mind-find

Laurel Raimey is keeping a difficult secret: she is a finder -- a person gifted with the parapsychological ability to find missing things or people. Hers is a strange, sometimes frightening gift, which she must hide because of her mother's unshakeable belief that such power is the result of a disordered mind. Laurel knows better, but there is no one she can trust and no one who will understand. Relieved to be spending the summer with her father in the country, Laurel soon realizes that Dr. Raimey, a renowned parapsychologist, is too engrossed in his research to pay any attention to his daughter. All the more reason for Laurel to suppress her finding ability -- if her father discovered it, she'd become just another guinea pig for his research. Frustrated, angry, and hurt, Laurel runs away -- and is taken in by the most wonderful family she has ever known. There is something special about the Lestranges that makes Laurel feel immediately at home. Suddenly the summer is full of discovery and bright possibilities. As Laurel and her father begin to bridge the distance between them, it seems nothing can spoil these happy days... Until her secret becomes impossible to hide. In the middle of a raging hurricane, Laurel receives a terrifying distress signal. To share the message is to reveal her secret. To withhold what she knows, with lives in danger, is even worse. Finally, struggling against a communication too urgent to ignore, Laurel can no longer hold back. This extraordinary science fiction/adventure story by the author of Mind-Hold takes us into the strange and fascinating world of parapsychology -- and leads once again to the House of Logran.
