In the United States, one of the most notorious moonshiners of the 20th century was Joshua "Percy" Flowers, who earned the title of “King of Moonshine” on the East Coast. Although you may have never heard of Percy Flowers, he was the largest moonshiner of all time. Moonshining has been a long-standing tradition in America, and the stories of legendary moonshiners such as Amos Owens, Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton, Jim Tom Hedrick, Mahalia “Big Haley” Mullins, and racing icon Junior Johnson have become embedded in Western North Carolina folklore. In North Carolina, Percy Flowers' moonshining activities surpassed all others who ever fired up a moonshine still. You will soon understand why I say he was the greatest of all time.
