The prize for winning is that he is entitled to marry the ruling high priestess, should she choose to accept him, and thus become high priest and king of the Khokarsa. However the king is unwilling to relinquish power and schemes to kill Hadon. Hadon fights to overthrow the corrupt monarchy.
