Lizzie, a happy, attractive and successful woman in her twenties, who falls in love with Edward as he charms his way into her life with his good looks, captivating personality and almost obsessive devotion. She ignores the many warning signs as well as concerns from her friends, and after a short head-spinning romance gets finds herself married and shortly after, pregnant. She soon finds herself pulled into a suffocating world where gentle comments become cutting criticisms and long silences follow any small disagreement. As she becomes increasingly isolated from most of the other people in her life, Edward reveals his true colours as a violent, sexually aggressive sadist. Trapped and alone with a young child, Lizzie begins to realise that he will never let her leave him and can only see one other way out. It would be madness to even contemplate, but he has already pushed her so far towards the edge.
