About DUCK HOOK: A Brad Stephens Thriller Hole #7

A few years ago, Brad Stephens shot Barbara Bruschetti in self-defense. He had been called by Congress to testify in a financial matter--perhaps the biggest financial in the history of the Western world--the subprime mortgage meltdown. Barbara and her step brother, Tony decided they needed to kill anybody who might testify against their father, the king of subprime mortgage loans, and all around scumbag, Salvadore Bruschett. Unfortunately for Brad, she didn't die. She was found to be criminally insane and sent to a clinic in upstate New York. Now, Barbara is back. Barbara, the lunatic she is, holds Brad responsible for a whole list of transgressions: Ruining her father's reputation by testifying before Congress; Damaging the family fortune; Causing her mother to drink herself to death; And, most importantly, Killing her adopted step-brother, Tony. Barbara wants revenge. No, 'wants' is to soft a word. Barbara demands revenge. She's obsessed. And she's not going to stop until Brad is pushing up daisies. Just like Tony and her mom. While organizing a professional golf tournament to be held in Oregon at Bandon Dunes, Brad is informed of Barbara's escape from the loony bin. And she didn't just jump the fence or tie together some sheets and slip down the wall. She did it the old fashioned way--by killing the shrink who had fallen in love with her. The cops find evidence to suggest she has had a face lift and is heading west towards Santa Barbara. Brad lives in Santa Barbara. Doesn't take a genius to figure out she is on her way to kill him. Things were just starting to go well in Brad's life. A mortgage broker for many years, he was just beginning to grab traction as the manager of several professional golfers. His main player, and best friend, John Linden, had just won the Open in St. Andrews. Younger players were gravitating towards his services. Why now? Why him? Couldn't she just flee the country like other crooks do? Nope, not Barbara Bruschetti. As any golfer knows, the Duck Hooks hit you just when things are going good. Your putts are rolling true. Your irons are solid. And your drives are long and straight And then, bam!, the ball hooks on every shot. You end up behind a tree. In a trap. Out of bounds. Bogey's and double-bogey's lurk. Well, congratulations Brad Stephens. You just got a terrible case of the Duck Hooks. Not on the golf course. But in life. Good luck!
