Somebody knows… I told myself it was okay. I’m a woman now, not the scared girl who ran away to the other side of the world all those years ago. I thought there was no way anyone would recognise me after all this time. So when somebody called out my name on a busy city street, I went into panic mode. We’d be safe in the suburbs, wouldn’t we? I was so desperate to find a house that I ignored the weird sense of déjà vu I felt when the estate agent showed us around. I didn’t stop to question why she offered us the house ahead of all the other people who turned up to view it. Now I can’t help thinking I’ve made a huge mistake. We can’t afford to move somewhere else, but it’s starting to look like the only sensible option. It feels like somebody is watching my every move and our new neighbours are so hostile. why? I was trying so hard to escape the past, I missed the danger in the present.
