A time capsule is unearthed one hundred years after the original builder of Balboa Island, Fred Ateon, buried it along with a century-old secret. Like Pandora’s Box, evil seems to escape the capsule providing not answers, but mystery. Questions of murder add to the overriding fear of sea level rise that may inundate the island in Newport Beach, California. Jason Waters struggles to hold back the tides to protect the historic Ateon family and the community, but murder, greed, and revenge surge throughout, inundating the beautiful hamlet. Jason wrestles with the futility created by the nouveau-noir of affluence that wears a façade of California sunshine. This façade obscures the cynicism and moral ambiguity that challenges him in achieving his goal.
