Long ago in the mythical land of Lusa (from the Spanish word luz, for light), there was peace and harmony among all creatures, man and beast, but that idyllic unity is now lost. The protagonist, Captain Eli (Elijah, the restorer), gathers a select group of people and talking animals to join his crew as he travels on his ship, the Karu Mar. Throughout their adventures and conflicts, the characters meet many interesting and exotic creatures, celebrate victories against evil injustice, and grow to care for one another, despite their differences. Captain Eli guides the crew in confronting injustice and rescuing those in need while he calls for universal understanding and compassion. This book provides a lighthearted portrayal of the power of light over darkness, compassion over condemnation and healing over brokenness. Themes covered include bullying, responsibility, spiritual values, humility, compassion for others, restoration and redemption acceptance of other's differences and a purpose filled life in a world created with a beautiful purpose. There are battles and there are conflicts and very real evil, but the victory is won by the peacemakers who fight in a spirit of a pure heart, and not a heart of vengeance.
