About 20th Anniversary Basic Fantasy RPG Core Rules 4thEd

NOTE: This 20th Anniversary printing of the 4th Edition Core Rules is exactly the same as the regular release, except for the cover. On January 20th, 2006, the very first incomplete release of the Basic Fantasy RPG core rules was released to the public. It was a rallying cry, arguably the first public release (however incomplete) of a retroclone game system, and the Old School community responded. By the summer the 62nd release was played at a small convention, and by February 28, 2007 the game became available in print. First announced and displayed at the Basic Fantasy Adventure Binge 2025 at Fall-Con in Quincy, Illinois, this special edition cover design will be available until February 28th, 2027, the 20th anniversary of the original print release. The cover features the original Scribbled Dragon by Erik Wilson as used on the 1st Edition of the game, and the "open" border design from the popular alternate cover version. This is the revised 4th Edition of the Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game, a rules-light game system written with inspiration from early RPG game systems. It is suitable for those who are fans of "old-school" game mechanics, and it's simple enough for children in perhaps second or third grade to play, yet still having enough depth for adults as well. With this edition, the game is now released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license.
