Science Fiction
The Scarlet Empire is on my Want to Read list mostly because the title does a lot of work. It sounds properly dramatic without trying too hard.

Adventure and science fiction can mean very different things, though. Sometimes that mix gives you pace and a bit of grit, sometimes it turns into endless running about with no atmosphere. I’m curious which way this one leans.

Also, the cover matters here. If it doesn’t give at least a hint of mood, it’s doing the book a disservice.

Adventure + science fiction can get a bit too efficient sometimes. Plenty of motion, not much feeling of place. If this one really earns the “empire” part of the title, I’d want some sense of scale or pressure, not just a chase scene in nicer packaging.

The cover would have to do some heavy lifting too. A title like that needs a bit of menace, otherwise it starts sounding like it was chosen in a hurry.
