Historical
A novella with a proper character hook is usually enough to get me interested. Street urchin, princess, court life. That’s a neat setup, and it doesn’t need to do much more than that.
Fantasy can work very well when it borrows the feel of historical intrigue without getting lost in its own worldbuilding. This one is on my Want to Read shelf for that reason. Shorter form, strong relationship, clear turning point. Enough said, really.
