A critical intro can be useful. It just has to earn the confidence it’s asking for.
That’s what I kept thinking about Sharon A. Russell’s Revisiting Stephen King. The best parts are the ones that give enough context to make the later novels feel legible, rather than trying to tidy King into a neat verdict. Which would be a bit optimistic, really.
