Romance
Came for the mafia-romance promise, stayed for the control-freak antihero energy. The title is doing a lot of work, which I respect in a slightly cynical way.

It’s a dark romance with legal thriller bits, so there’s plenty of slickness, but the appeal for me was less the gloss and more the pressure underneath it. The kind of book where everyone is making choices with their jaw clenched.

Not subtle, exactly. But it knows what it is.

The legal-thriller part is what keeps it from feeling like just another glossy dark romance. That mix only works if the stakes stay clear, otherwise it turns into expensive brooding in tailored suits.

I’m usually more interested in whether the control reads as character or just decoration. This one at least knows the difference.
