Science Fiction
Science fiction that reads like theory is either exactly my thing or a very elaborate way of making my eyes glaze over. No middle ground, apparently.

Exploring the Limits of the Human through Science Fiction is on my Want to Read list because the idea behind it is genuinely interesting: treating the genre as a way of thinking, not just a pile of spaceships and clever concepts. That sounds useful. Also slightly intimidating, which is usually a decent sign.

I’m curious whether it stays readable for people who like the ideas but could do without the academic fog.

Theory-heavy science fiction can be useful, but only if it remembers to be read by humans. I’m wary of anything that starts treating “the genre” as a single grand argument. The best criticism usually feels a bit messier than that. If this one stays clear without sanding off the awkward bits, I can see the appeal.
