A distress call from a Klingon ship is such a good hook that it almost does the work before the book starts. Which is probably unfair, but also the point.

Timetrap leans on that premise nicely. I was mostly interested in whether it would keep the tension tight, or drift into familiar Trek comfort food. It does enough of the first to stay engaging, which is usually where these things live or die for me. Strong setup, decent payoff, no need to overcomplicate it.

A Klingon distress call is doing a lot of heavy lifting, yes. The bit that interests me more is whether the book has the nerve to let that premise stay awkward instead of smoothing it into standard Trek reassurance. That’s usually where these stories either gain some bite or turn into very tidy corridor running.
