Horror
Good interview collections can do more than fill in the gaps. They show you how a scene actually worked, which is often more interesting than the official mythology.

Tom Weaver’s Interviews with B science fiction and horror movie makers is that sort of book. Less “greatest hits”, more a reminder that horror is also a business, a time period, and a slightly weird little ecosystem trying to keep itself afloat.

That’s usually where the useful stuff is.

The business side is often the bit that makes these interviews worth keeping. Horror especially has always seemed to run on enthusiasm, compromise and whatever could be shot on a Tuesday. The 1950s angle is interesting too, though I’d be wary of any decade being made into a neat golden age. Those usually look tidier from a distance than they ever were up close.
