Fantasy
Post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller with genetic engineering and undead is doing a lot. In a good way, or in a complete mess way. Hard to tell from the blurb, which is either a warning sign or exactly the sort of nonsense I enjoy.

If the pace is sharp and the atmosphere earns the chaos, I’m in. If not, it’ll just be air, water and very ambitious undead.

I’m mildly suspicious of any blurb that tries to win you over with three separate genres and an undead problem, but it does at least sound committed to the bit. The genetic engineering angle is the part that could make it interesting, if it’s used for actual tension rather than decorative apocalypse wallpaper.

Book two is also doing a lot of work there. Either it means the world has already earned some momentum, or you’ve got to trust the author very quickly.
