Serial Killer Princess is one of those titles that does half the work before you even know what the book is about. Chaos, satire, dark fantasy, maybe all three. Hard to say, which is probably the point.

I haven’t read it yet, but I do admire a book that commits to a title with that much swagger. There’s a fine line between intriguing and deeply unhelpful, and this one seems to have parked itself right on it. In a good way.

A title like that usually tells you one of two things: the book is either absolutely committed to the bit, or it’s trying very hard to distract you from something else. I’m mildly suspicious of both, which is probably why it works.

If the humour is doing real work rather than just shouting over the top of the plot, I’d be curious. Otherwise it can end up feeling like a novelty that ran out of novelty halfway through.
