Science Fiction
The Outsider is doing that slightly annoying, slightly impressive thing where it refuses to sit neatly in one lane. Island atmosphere, healing, a bit of science fiction, a bit of romance, and somehow it’s still readable rather than a mess. Mostly.

I’m enjoying the setting more than anything else so far. It has that isolated, self-contained feel that can do a lot of heavy lifting if the characters hold up. Which is the real test, really. Premise is easy. Getting Summer and Cameron to feel like people rather than ideas with names attached, less so.

At 8% in, the genre-blending is still the main point for me. The island setup does a lot of work, but that only matters if the book resists turning Cameron into a convenient mystery box. That’s usually where these go soft.

If it keeps the healing side grounded, I can see why it’s working. If not, it’ll start feeling like two books sharing a cover.
