Ice Commander is doing that awkward thing where the cold, disciplined space setting sits right beside the erotic material and keeps daring you to decide whether it’s clever or just brazen.

At 42% in, I’m not settled on that yet. The mix can work if it has a proper edge to it. If it’s only there to be provocative, the whole thing starts to feel thinner than it should.

Still reading. That’s usually the real test.

That mismatch is the point of the book, though, isn’t it? If the setting feels too polished, the erotic material starts looking pasted on. The better versions of this kind of thing use the awkwardness on purpose, so the tension is doing more than one job.

I’d be more suspicious if it were seamless. Seamless can just mean anaesthetised.
