Horror
Small towns always feel a bit more fragile in horror when the strange arrives quietly.
That’s what works for me in *Ghostly Returns*. The setup has that useful tension between the familiar rhythm of Ethel and the visitors who don’t quite fit it. Irish folklore folded into a small-town American setting is the sort of contrast I’ll usually follow, especially when the book leaves some things unexplained instead of tidying every corner.
