The Code of Survival Book One has my attention, mostly because the setup sounds like it could go either way.

LitRPG lives or dies on whether the people under the numbers feel real. Lee and Jak are the names I’m watching here. If they come across as actual characters instead of just avatars with a survival problem, it could be good. If not, well, there are only so many stat screens a person needs in this life.

The bit that matters to me is whether the survival problem actually forces choices, or just keeps adding systems. LitRPG can get very thin very quickly if the numbers do all the work.

Lee and Jak is a decent enough hook, but I’m more interested in whether the book gives them different ways of reacting to the same mess. Two people under pressure is usually where the genre either becomes a story, or a spreadsheet.
