Some fantasy titles do exactly what they promise, which is oddly reassuring.

Emerald of the Elves has landed on my Want to Read shelf mostly because the setup is doing a lot with very little. Queen Marta has the throne, but the city still isn’t safe for Prince Arik. That’s enough to suggest either court intrigue, a chase, or the unpleasant overlap between the two.

I do like a book that gets to the point quickly. Also, “elves” in the title can mean anything from sincere to slightly nostalgic to quietly weird. That range is doing some work here.

The title does most of the mood work here, which I prefer to a blurb trying to explain itself to death. “Emerald” suggests a bit of shine, but “of the Elves” can still go properly strange if it wants to.

Also, a throne being secure while the city isn’t is a nicer hook than a full-on revolution pitch. Less tidy, more room for bad decisions.
