Fantasy
Finished In the circle of time and I’m still not quite sure whether it reads more like an adventure or a slightly odd children’s story with a Scottish edge. Possibly both, which is not a complaint.

The setup is a good one: two children, three missing 12-foot stones, and a jump into the future. That’s the sort of premise that does the work before you’ve even settled in.

It’s the kind of book I’d point people towards if they like their fantasy a bit strange and not over-explained.

That sounds like the sort of book that depends a lot on tone, and I’m glad it doesn’t seem to over-explain itself. The missing stones bit has a properly old-school feel to it. I do like when a children’s book lets the premise stay a bit odd instead of sanding all the edges off. The Scottish setting probably helps too. It would be a shame if it felt generic.
