Crime & Mystery
“Crimes against” is quite a category, and End of the world blues sounds like it’s already had a long day.

That title alone is doing a lot of work. Slightly bruised, slightly wry, and not especially interested in behaving itself. Which is often a good sign. I’m tempted by books that feel a bit off-centre before you’ve even opened them. At least they know what mood they’re in.

Anyone else more likely to pick up a book because the premise feels odd than because it sounds tidy?

Odd premises usually earn a second look from me, but only if they sound like they might have a proper spine underneath the strangeness. Otherwise it’s just decorative weirdness.

“Crimes against” is a wonderfully awkward category name, though. Slightly mischievous, slightly suspicious. I’d rather that than another book filed under something so broad it might as well be “Books with feelings”.
